John Rousseau has been an active parent during his daughter’s Portland Public Schools tenure. He understands the challenges of guiding the policy direction of the 6,500 student school system. As a proponent of the new strategic plan, he envisions a future where every student has access to quality education, regardless of their background.

John is an artist, entrepreneur and small business owner. He started out 30 years ago by taking old barns and converting them into houses. Along the way he started a wood reclamation business and has been taking old wood and creating new products such as flooring, paneling, timbers, millwork. John has a skillful eye for taking old wood and making it new again. Rather than seeing our past be thrown into a landfill, he is doing his part to improve climate resiliency.

He lives in the Riverton neighborhood of Portland and is the proud father of a Casco Bay High School graduate. In his free time, he enjoys skiing and hiking.
